Athletic Trainer

UPMC Orthopedic Care is seeking a dedicated Athletic Trainer to join our growing team! This role offers the opportunity to work directly with a Sports Medicine Surgeon, support local student-athletes, and play an integral role in delivering high-quality orthopedic and sports medicine care. Location: 820 Sir Thomas Court Harrisburg, PA 17109

Schedule:

• Monday through Friday
• 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
• Occasional evening and weekend hours required for athletic event and game coverage
• Travel required to local schools for sports physicals and athletic event coverage, as well as other UPMC Orthopedic Care offices as needed
• No on-call responsibilities

Purpose: Provide athletic training services for UPMC contractual organizations. Involved in various programs coordinated and/or sponsored by UPMC Sports Medicine.

Responsibilities:

• Provides athletic training services in accordance with the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) Code of Ethics, Board of Certification (BOC) Standards of Professional Practice, Pennsylvania State Practice Act, Pennsylvania Rules and Regulations for Licensed Athletic Trainers, UPMC system-wide policies, and Athletic Training & Development department-specific policies and procedures.
• Provides athletic training services within contractual guidelines utilizing UPMC and site-specific written protocols while adhering to written physician agreements.
• Follows established departmental communication standards for athletic training staff.
• Maintains, completes, and submits department-specific electronic and written documentation to supervisory staff in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
• Maintains, completes, and submits appropriate electronic and written incident documentation for contracted organizations in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
• Coordinates, conducts, and/or assists with pre-season assessments for contracted athletic organizations.
• Presents one in-service education program annually according to established departmental guidelines.
• Participates in community education programs approved by UPMC Sports Medicine.
• Participates in athletic training services at special events sponsored by UPMC Sports Medicine.
• Assists in providing treatment to patients at UPMC Centers for Rehab Services as needed.
• Assists in maintaining efficient patient flow, provides educational services, and selects and fits prescribed soft goods items in physician offices associated with UPMC Sports Medicine as needed.
• Proactively builds relationships with UPMC services, including Centers for Rehab Services, neuropsychologists, physicians, and other key stakeholders.
• Participates in professional growth and development activities related to sports medicine to further knowledge and expertise.
• Performs evaluations, establishes plans of care, and selects appropriate treatment and rehabilitation interventions.
• For employees with five or more years of athletic training experience, provides virtual athletic training services within contractual guidelines utilizing UPMC written protocols and adhering to written physician agreements.
• Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies and behavioral expectations.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum of a Bachelor of Science or Art degree.

Ability to quickly establish rapport with students, physicians, staff and co-workers.

Highly organized and able to prioritize assignments.

Reliable transportation and willingness to travel to worksites within local area required.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

• Certification as an athletic trainer by the Board of Certification (BOC).
• Certified as an athletic trainer in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
• Emergency Cardiac Care that covers the following areas: adult & pediatric CPR, AED, airway obstruction, 2nd rescuer CPR and barrier devices (e.g., pocket mask, bag valve mask).
• CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
• Clearances must be dated within 90 days
• Athletic Trainer OR Athletic Trainer Certified (ATC)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
• Act 114 PDE FBI Clearance with renewal
• Act 168
• Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
• Act 33 with renewal
• Act 34 with renewal
